A pair of Dutch East Indian 18th century figures

A pair of early 18th century Indian figures delicately carved with red hats, white cravats and holding the tongues of stylised animal with knee length buttoned tunics and red socks standing on black blocked bases.

Dutch, circa 1740
These figures would have probably have been mounted to a wall. The reverse, although painted, does contain and cut out block where a support would have fitted. They are carved to replicate figures from the Dutch East Indian colony in Batavia although, as they are made of poplar are of a northern European origin.
