A late 18th century marble bust of the goddess Roma

A statuary white marble bust of the goddess Roma, attributed to Francis Harwood (1726-1783), the goddess wearing a helmet with raised scenes of the wolf suckling Romulus; the crest embellished with giallo antico marble and the visor with africano marble, the drapery carved from bardiglio marble and Sicilian jasper, on a neo-classical socle.

The bust bears many similarities to the work of Francis Harwood, an English sculptor working in Italy during the late 18th century.

Price: £38,000

The bust could be sold with an accompanying column – Roman, 2nd century AD, also of bardiglio marble and with a rouge royal base. Dimensions are 90cm high x 28cm diameter and the separate base is 34cm high x 16cm diameter.
