A 19th century ebonised carved Ceylonese settee

A mid 19th century large and heavily carved ebonised settee with shaped top rail with heavily carved central shell motif above a central fluted splat with caning to either side above two large bolstered arms capped with heavily carved roundels above a downward shaped carved frieze on bulbous carved legs terminating in capped toes.

Ceylon, circa 1850
Note: As with most colonial Ceylonese furniture of the period aspects of traditional fashionable English furniture are taken and enlarged upon giving an oversized, over carved look. This can be seen in the heavily carved shell motif on the back top rail and the carved vases on the front legs.
