A late 18th century French side table with a Florentine specimen marble top

A late 18th century oak side table inset with a rectangular Florentine specimen marble top veneered with precious marbles which came from ancient Florentine buildings.

The base with egg and dart moulding to the lip above a neo classically carved freeze with trailing swags and urn enclosing a central drawer on four tapering columned legs decorated with trailing swags and terminating in tapering toes.

The base, northern French or Flemish, circa 1780 The top, Florentine, possibly earlier.
The marbles in the top include Alabastro cotognino, Alabastro fiorito, Alabastro a pecorella, Alabastro del Gebel Oust, Alabastro di Palombara and Alabastro Verdognolo, Marmo Africano, Bardiglio di Carrara, Bianco e nero antico, Bigio antico, Breccia Pavonazza di Ezine, Breccia di Sciro, Giallo Antico, Lumachella Orientale, Pavonazetto, Porfido Rosso e Verde Mare, Portasanta, Rosso Antico, Serpentina Moschinata, Diaspro Siciliano Verde Prato and Verde Antico.
